Before you hang the curtains or drapes that will adorn your rooms, be sure
that you have correctly installed the rods and brackets that will hold your
window coverings.
The first thing you should do is to determine whether you want to mount your
curtain rods on the window casing or on the wall. If you are not attaching the
brackets to wood casing, you will need hollow wall anchors.
You will then want to hold the rod up to the wall or casing to determine the
proper positioning. Use a carpenter’s level to make sure the rod is straight.
Depending o your preference, you will want to place the brackets three to six
inches beyond the edge of the window. Use a pencil to mark the placement of the
brackets on the wall.
You should also indicate the position of the bracket holes on the wall or window
casing using a pencil.
You will next need to drill pilot holes, shallow holes that will help you start
the screws or anchors, into the pencil marks you made on the wall or casing.
The manufacturer will usually provide the screws and anchors needed. Insert the
screws through the bracket and into the wall.
Place the curtain rod into the brackets.
You may want to consider installing a center bracket if the rod is longer than
48 inches. A center bracket will help support the additional weight of the
curtains.
Also, be sure to use wall fasteners that will support the weight of your rod and
curtains.
